DERMAL FILLER INJECTIONS

JUVÉDERM® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) based dermal filler which helps correct wrinkles and augments facial contours by filling a volume deficit in the dermis or deeper tissue spaces. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that keeps skin moisturized and soft.

Pre Treatment 
  • Schedule treatment at least 4 weeks prior to special event (wedding,vacation) to ensure adequate healing time 

  • If you have a history of cold sores, please let your provider know. They may elect to put you on an
    anti-viral medication prior to treatment.

  • Treatment with NSAID’s, ASA, oral anticoagulants one week prior to treatment 

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.

  • Discontinue Retin-A two (2) days before and two (2) days after treatment.

  • Come to your appointment with a clean face (no makeup)

Post Treatment
  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area *unless* instructed by the provider.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for twenty-four (24) hours.

  • Avoid excessive sun or heat for seventy-two (72) hours.

  • Do Not Apply Anything to the skin until the day after treatment: No cleanser, moisturizer, or makeup!

  • Wait a minimum of four weeks (or as directed by your provider) before receiving any skin care or laser treatments.

  • To minimize swelling:

    • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol and/or high-sodium foods

    • Apply cold compresses or ice packs for twenty (20) minutes each hour the first one (1) to two (2) days after treatment (while awake).

    • Sleep face-up, with head elevated 

    • Use Tylenol for discomfort. This will also minimize swelling.

  • For moderate swelling you can take over the counter antihistamines. 

  • If you would like to minimize the risk of bruising after treatment, please
    consider these options:

    • Homeopathic Arnica Montana ointment

    • Bromelain (homeopathic medicine)

    • Good nutrition and fresh fruit consumption (pineapple and papaya recommended)

    • Ocumend gel pads (available online)

  • How long does it take to see the results of treatment? 

    • ​Dermal filler products yield results immediately post treatment.

  • How long do the effects of filler last?

    • 6-12 months after treatment

  • Who cannot get filler?

    • Pregnancy or nursing

    • Infection in the treatment area (herpes simplex, acne)

    • Hypertrophic or keloidal scar formation 

    • Bleeding abnormality (thrombocytopenia, anticoagulant use)

    • Accutane within the last 6 months 

    • Skin atrophy (chronic steroid use, genetic syndromes such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome)

    • Impaired healing (due to immunosuppression)

    • Dermatoses active in treatment area (vitiligo, psoriasis, eczema) 

    • Uncontrolled systemic condition 

    • Previous anaphylactic reaction 

    • Multiple severe allergies 

    • Sensitivity or allergy to constituents of dermal filler products 

  • What are the possible adverse side effects of dermal fillers?

    • Most common side effects are mild and include redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising.
